I hope y'all are excited as I am about this year's Can't Stop the Serenity event THIS Saturday night at the Coolidge Corner Theater.

Tickets sales have been very brisk so if you haven't gotten yours yet please make it a point to do so. Remember that tickets in at advance are $12 but are $15 the day of the show. You can get your tickets now at the Coolidge Box Office or online at www.coolidge.org.

Also don't forget to bring a non-perishable food item for the Greater Boston Food Bank. Everyone that makes a donation will be entered into our raffle for some really cool prizes!!

We also will have a very limited number of CSTS T-shirts available for purchase for $20 each with sizes from M to 2XL.

We will be starting the line at 10:30pm and ask for the sake of the theater's operation that you do not show up beforehand as the space in the alley is limited and we do not want to disturb the business of the theater's 2nd evening shows.

For those who were wondering......yes there WILL be a Can't Stop the Serenity event in Boston in 2011!!!

The event this year will be ONE NIGHT ONLY on Saturday night, June 25th at midnight at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline, MA.

Once again will be showing "Serenity" in 35MM on the big screen!!!! (Due to circumstances beyond our control we cannot screen "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" this year).

On Friday night we are going to have out Dr. Horrible/Captain Hammer costume contest. The best Doctor and Captain will each win a pair of passes to New England Comic Con.

Commentary! and the Costume Contest

On Friday, June 18th when we screen Dr. Horrible, we will be we actually be showing the film twice.

The first time will be the normal screening (with the shadowcast by the Teseracte Players of Boston. The second time we will be showing it with the audio of Commentary! The Musical, a musical performance by the Dr. Horrible cast and crew of the DVD Commentary of the film while the Teseracte Players act out the parts of Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion, et al.

Between each showing we will be having a Dr. Horrible/Captain Hammer costume contest. Come dressed as the Good(Bad?) Doctor or the Everyone's Hero(?) .

The best Hammer and Horrible costumes will each win a pair of weekend passes to the New England Comic Con courtesy of Wizard World. The New England Comic Con will be at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston October 15th-17th.

What IS a Shadowcast?

If you saw our flyer, you might be asking yourself: "Self.......what is a Shadowcast?"

A Shadowcast is a troupe of actors who recreate a film on stage that is playing in the background. The live actors emulate, enhance, and interpret what is happening on the screen. The most famous example of a shadowcast is for the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" but recently have expanded to "Repo: The Genetic Opera"and, of course, "Dr. Horrible".

When we show "Dr. Horrible" on June 18th, it will be shadowcast by the Teseracte Players of Boston. They will not only perform a shadowcast of "Dr. Horrible" but also, for the first time anywhere, "Commentary: The Musical", a musical performance by the Dr. Horrible cast and crew of the DVD Commentary of the film. It will be a fun and unique experience.

The New England Browncoats present the 5th Annual "Can't Stop the Serenity" Event at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, MA at midnight on Friday and Saturday June 18th and 19th, 2010.

"Can’t Stop the Serenity" is a global fundraising effort to benefit Equality Now. In the last four years, the New England Browncoats have raised over $20,000, and in total over $500,000 has been raised for Equality Now around the world. This year, we will have 2 different special nights of events. On Friday, June 18th we will be screening Joss Whedon's award-winning Internet musical sensation Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog featuring a shadowcast performance by The Teseracte Players of Boston. On Saturday June 19th we will be screening Joss Whedon’s 2005 film Serenity. Both events will start at midnight.

Fans of Joss Whedon show Dr. Horrible and Serenity on his birthday to honor him and to raise money for his favorite charity, Equality Now. Equality Now (http://equalitynow.org/) works to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world through the mobilization of public pressure.

In addition to raising money for Equality Now, we will also be collecting non-perishable food items for the Greater Boston Food Bank. In the past four years we have collected over 3,000 lbs. of food for the GBFB. Anyone that brings a donation will be eligible for raffle prizes, including actual props used in the film Serenity.

Admission for each night will be $15 in advance and $20 the day of the show. A special 2-night combo ticket will be available for $25 available in advance only. Tickets will be available starting in May at the Coolidge Corner Theatre Box Office or online at www.coolidge.org.

I'm floored.

We had a record 736 people come out to this year's CSTS Boston and we raised an astonishing $6735.00 for Equality Now.

In addition, we collected over 1,500 lbs. of food for the Greater Boston Food Bank.

We not only succeeded our total from last year....we more than DOUBLED IT!!! Thank you to not only everyone who came out but to everyone that helped out.

It's amazing that our little show which got almost no traditional media advertisement and relied solely on word of mouth, flyers and web site posts.

We got 736 people to come out AT MIDNIGHT to see something they can see for free on the web and a movie that most patrons already have in their DVD collection.

Again I am floored by the support and generosity of everyone that was a part of this from the Coolidge Corner Theater to all the people that came and sang and laughed and had a great time.

The one question I was asked again and again those night was "Will we do this again next year?"

Yup.

I want to thank everyone that came to this year's event including everyone that helped out. It would have been an impossible task without you.

We ended up with the highest attendance ever for Boston and one of the biggest crowds ever for a CSTS event. (over 700 people over the 2 evenings). We should have final number in the next couple of weeks.

Are we going to do this again next year? You betcha!!!

The time is almost here!!! CSTS Boston is happening tomorrow and Saturday!!! For those who are coming, here is what you need to get the most out of the night:

Bring food: Not popcorn or soda - the Coolidge will have that for you. I'm talking about bringing non-perishable food items for the Greater Boston Food Bank. Every item you bring gets you a raffle ticket to win some awesome prizes and some more awesome prizes!! The more you bring the better your chances.
Bring cash: We are going to have a limited number of t-shirts, posters, cloth patches and limited edition CSTS postcard sets. And we are only going to be taking cash. But if you are going to be strapped that night and want a t-shirt badly or get there after we sell out, you can order one here until June 25th. Also bring cash for popcorn and soda as well - the Coolidge deserves our support for letting us take over the place.
Bring your Brain: While we are waiting to go in for the show we will be having some trivia contests to test your Horrible and 'verse knowledge. Winners will be entered into the CSTS global prize draw for a chance to win some really exceptional prizes including a Dollhouse poster signed by Joss Whedon and a $75 Visa gift card donated by the Kids Need to Read Fountation.

After the big announcement we've received some questions on how the evening is going to go. I'll try to answer a few here:

1. So, is Doctor Horrible going to be shown early, say at eleven, or are we going to be at the theater until four in the morning? Either is fine by me, but I'd like to know whether I need to pencil an afternoon nap into my plans. (I'm getting old, man.)

Dr. Horrible will be shown FIRST and will start at midnight each evening and Serenity will be shown directly afterward. This will get us out around 3am so try to get that nap in if you can.

2. So let me ask for clarification...because i want to make sure I understand this completely. On both Friday June 19th and Saturday June 20th the films Serenity AND Dr Horrible will be shown. Both Films...both nights. Not one film one night and the next the other night.

That is correct!! (So I hope you had a bet with someone about it. Then they need to pay up. ) BOTH films will play on both nights.

3. It looks to me like it starts Friday night at 1155p and continues til about 3am Saturday Morning. Officially it will be a "Midnite" show.. but if you list a midnite show, do you do it for Friday or Saturday? folks will be confused.

That is why we list the start time as 11:55pm so we can avoid the confusion of "Is Midnight considered Friday or Saturday?". At least with having events showing both nights the chances of someone being wrong are missing out are greatly reduced. (Although don't show up Thursday or Sunday night - no one will be there. Besides, you have the work the next day.)

4. Are you having the food raffle again this year? If so, what are the prizes?

Yes we are having another food raffle this year and the prizes this year will be great. Once again our friends at The Prop Store of London came through and has given us yet ANOTHER prop used in the film Serenity as a grand prize. We'll have the complete list of prizes here as we get closer to the date.

5. When you tickets go on sale? I don't want to miss out!! Also, why did the price go up this year?

Tickets will go on sale in a couple of weeks at the Coolidge Corner Box Office or online at www.coolidge.org. We'll make the announcement here when that happens. Also, with the addition of Dr. Horrible we had the bump our ticket price up slightly to make up for additional expenses.

Extra Big Annoucement!!!

Well it seems we are going to have a couple of excellent changes in our plans for this year's CSTS.

We are going to have 2 nights at the Coolidge as we had last year. We were only going to do one night this year but something big has come up that changes things.

And that change is.........that in addition to the film Serenity, we will be showing Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog!!!

This will be Dr. Horrible's big screen debut in Boston. And we will be showing Dr. Horrible with all the lyrics so you can (duh) sing along and probably the only time you'll be able to see both these great films on the same evening.

So do not miss this extra special weekend on June 19th and 20th at The Coolidge.
